Philosophy the Matrix & Kabbalah

Film, Film, Kabbalah, Online Media, Jewish Spirituality, Kabbalah 2 Comments »

I rediscovered the Matrix trilogy this weekend when I accidentally stumbled across two interesting documentaries on the series.

The first entitled “Returning to the Source - Philosophy and the Matrix” is an extremely interesting exploration of the many philosophical underpinnings contained within the trilogy. This documentary features interviews with numerous academics working in the fields of religion, philosophy and psychology, including interviews with one of my favorites Ken Wilber. Towards the end of this documentary there’s even a connection made between concepts presented in the matrix and the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah.

The second documentary entitled “The Roots of the Matrix” looks at how real world technologies such as artificial intelligence and computers are moving towards the ability to create an artificial world much like the one presented in the trilogy as the “ Matrix”.

Overall both are very interesting and worth checking out if you have the time.

Oh and as an added bonus I stumbled across a near DVD quality online version of the first film which can be found here. I’ve no idea how long it will be up and running so if you’re interested in checking it out, I recommend doing it sooner rather than later.

Be well

It’s been a while, so let’s catch up

Well I’ve learned a couple of things in the past week including the following.

One: It’s really hard for me to get around to doing proper posts when Tamara is here.

Two: Apparently people aren’t really interested in commenting on my Jesus related posts, LOL.

Anyhow Tamara is still here but I’ve managed to carve out a little time for myself in order to do a post or to and catch up on blog reading. So stay tuned for more blog posts later today and tomorrow.

It’s nice to have Tamara here and things are going well we’ve got a car, so we are able to get out and about despite the snow. Now speaking of the snow it’s actually been relatively mild and tolerable this past week. The weather has actually gone above zero several times and so Tamara hasn’t been overly traumatized by the Arctic climate that is Ottawa in March.

We’ve managed to check out the Museum of Civilization, which we have both already posted pictures from. While at the museum we also had a chance to see an IMAX (actually I think it was Omnimax) film which was probably my first in over 10 or 12 years. I can’t remember what it was called but it was about six beautiful natural environments including Tibet and Greenland. The cinematography was breathtaking and with that domed screen you literally got pulled into the images. It was truly amazing.

We also went to the movies one day and saw the Last King of Scotland starring Forest Whitaker. Wow, what an incredible film albeit a disturbing one. Forest certainly did a brilliant job playing Idi Amin it was truly chilling.

We got to spend an afternoon with my mother and stepfather which was quite enjoyable and we feasted on vegetarian lasagna that had corn in it. I love corn!

We also ran around and did errands which was fun to do as a couple.

Lastly and probably most importantly is that we managed to watch (thus far) 2 1/2 seasons of BattleStar Galactica. I knew that Tamara would like BattleStar Galactica but she’s actually really, really, really liking it, which is cool.

Anyhow that’s about it for now but I will be back.

Oh PS Thursday night I also got to spend a couple of hours revamping the blog and as you may or may not have noticed I’ve changed the look.

Okay well that’s it for now.

A Film About the Assassination of the 43rd President of the United States of America – George Walker Bush

Film, Film, Online Media, Politics of Religion No Comments »

Wow, what an incredible film. It is pure fiction but that’s a point I seemed to continually forget as I watched.

Death of a President is a mockumentry about the assassination of George W Bush. It’s a brilliantly told and compelling story, filled with poignant subtext about American foreign policy and its effects both abroad and at home.

The acting is superb and the story comes off as 100% legit.

Watching this film I couldn’t help but be reminded of that famous Oscar Wild post ” All that I desire to point out is the general principle that life imitates art far more than art imitates life.”

Anyhow watch this film!

From the Wikipedia blurb on the film.

Death of a President is a fictional documentary about the assassination of 43rd United States President George W. Bush.It is directed by British filmmaker Gabriel Range. The film uses archive footage, actors, and computer effects to portray an assassination of the 43rd American president. The film covers topics of civil disobedience, racial profiling, the reduction of civil liberties, sensationalism, and just-war theory.
The film premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, and was aired on the More4 channel in the UK on October 9. It was then aired on Channel 4 in the UK on October 19, 2006 — a year to the day before the events portrayed in the film.

Its 70s Classics Sci-Fi Night "Yeah Baby"

Just 4 Fun, Film, General 3 Comments »

Sure I could post more reflections on G-D, science, being a Jew by choice or integral theory. Oh but that’s not going to happen, not tonight anyways.

Why you ask?

Well let me tell you!

Today I hit the 1970s science-fiction jackpot on Google Video and it’s a double bill!

First up its Space 1999 the classic 70s science fiction Film (and show) about the crew of Moon Base Alpha. A completely self-contained lunar outpost which as a result of a nuclear accident was sent hurtling out of the Earth’s orbit (along with the moon I might add). Venturing out into an unknown cosmos, filled with all sorts of low-budget spaceships, aliens and civilization’s.

Next it’s everybody’s favorite post apocalyptic 1970s classic Logan’s Run. This film is a great little story about a post apocalyptic earth where only one domed city remains. In this futuristic world everybody comes from test tubes and is euthanized at the age of 30 (I think its 30). Logan’s Run is the story of two young people’s journey to escape the control of the city and venture out into the uncivilized world, where they rediscover their humanity.

I’m going to post both of them below in case anybody wants to join me but be warned I hate people who talk during good science-fiction movies and it’s bring your own popcorn.
